Keratoconus is a progressive corneal condition in which the cornea gradually thins and steepens into an irregular cone shape, causing increasing levels of nearsightedness, irregular astigmatism, and visual distortion that glasses and standard contact lenses are often unable to correct. It typically begins in the teenage years or early adulthood and can progress for years, making clear and comfortable vision increasingly difficult to achieve without specialized care. In more advanced cases, corneal ectasia can develop, and some patients may be candidates for corneal cross-linking, a procedure that strengthens the corneal tissue to slow or halt progression, which we evaluate for and refer to trusted corneal specialists when appropriate.

At Bespoke Eye Care, we specialize in the full spectrum of keratoconus care, from early detection and disease monitoring to advanced specialty contact lens fitting. We have particular expertise in scleral lenses, including patients who have struggled with them elsewhere or been told they are too difficult to fit. Scleral lenses vault over the irregular cornea entirely, providing a smooth optical surface and exceptional comfort that standard lenses simply cannot achieve. Many of our specialty contact lens fittings for keratoconus are covered by insurance as medically necessary, making expert care more accessible than many patients expect.
